I have an Extreme Country Boy in my life and he loves to take a normal recipe and “country boy” it up! This is a homemade snack mix his boss on the farm used to make for all the guys – then my boy had to kick it up with even spicier seasoning!
I packaged up this homemade spicy trail mix for holiday gifts but it’s good all year round! Sweet and spicy trail mix! Can you believe those Mason Jar Ziploc bags?! Are they not the cutest?!

This sweet and spicy snack mix is perfect for any occasion! It was really fun to think of all the crazy things we could put together and I have to say – you might think – how do peanut butter m&ms go with wasabi peas?? But they do!

How to spice up chex mix

The first step is mixing together anything that’s not going to melt in the oven (so leave the chocolates out until the end.) Then I mixed together melted butter with spicy stuff like chili powder and Frank’s Red Hot! Toss the mix and the spiced butter together and it’s ready for the oven. This seasoned chex mix recipe does go in the oven or even the AIR FRYER! Yes!!! I put half in the oven and half in the air fryer to test it out and it worked beautifully! After it’s baked – you let it cool, add in the chocolates and pack it up!

That’s where those super cute Mason Jar Ziploc bags come in!

Seriously – they are so cute and really affordable! $5 for 10 bags 🙂

Can you make spicy snack mix in the air fryer?

This holiday snack mix gift definitely can be made in the air fryer and it’s half the time of the oven!

This spicy snack mix is great for gifts – I packaged them up and shared them with friends for the holidays. If you’re looking for other gift ideas you could check out my holiday simmer bags! Or if you want a no-bake trail mix, check out my Monster Mix!
