Recipe Review: Hawaiian Burger from eMeals

I’ve had a membership to eMeals for quite some time – it’s a meal-planning service. I chose the Low-fat plan and came across a recipe for Hawaiian Burgers that I had to make! Larry LOVES pineapple and usually orders the Hawaiian Burger if he sees one on the menu – so I thought it would be fun to make one for him!

 The ingredients were simple – ground beef, salt, pepper, steak sauce, worcestershire sauce and pineapple. I actually didn’t have steak sauce – but I had some sauce from Firehouse Subs and used that instead.

And of course – I got Certified Angus Beef! Recently I went to the Headquarters for Certified Angus Beef (Day 1, Day 2) and now – that’s all I eat. It’s amazingly good beef. In Cincinnati, Meijer stores EXCLUSIVELY sell Certified Angus.

I also recently got this Ozeri Fresko Stainless Steel Salt & Pepper Grinder and figured this was a good time to use it. I like the grinder – once I figured out how to put the salt & pepper in – haha. It grinds easily though and I use it often now. (And it’s pretty great for under $20!)

I saw that douchey Adam Richman in a commercial and he said to put a dent in your burgers before you grill them and they won’t lose their size and balloon up in the middle. Sure enough – it worked!

I also threw the pineapple slices on the grill pan too. They stuck a little – I’d probably spray the pan a little more next time or rub a little butter on it.

 My husband is also a big fan of Swiss cheese – so I topped the burgers with that. I take a lid from another pan and put it on top so it melts quicker. At this point – I was drooling.

And voila – Hawaiian Burgers! These burgers were DELICIOUS! I will definitely be making these again – they were easy and scrumptious. Also – the dent in the burger – WORKED! They didn’t shrink as much and they weren’t all bubbled up in the center. I was impressed and will definitely do that when cooking burgers from now on.

Here’s the recipe from eMeals:

Hawaiian Burgers

Ingredients (serves 2)

* 1/2 lb lean ground beef
* 2 Tablespoons steak sauce
* 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
* 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* Salt & pepper
* 2 slices pineapple
* 2 slices Swiss cheese
* 2 hamburger buns

Instructions

* Combine beef, steak sauce, onion, Worcestershire, salt & pepper to taste.
* Form 2 burgers – grill burgers and pineapple slices, cooking about 5 minutes per side.
* Top with Swiss cheese in the last 1-2 minutes
* Serve on buns and top with pineapple

Disclosure: Ozeri provided the salt & pepper grinder to me but all opinions are my own.
